The ‘European diet’ doesn’t agree with European Australians either.

Before European arrival in Australia, the Aboriginal people had great teeth. Of the ancient Aboriginal bones exhumed, there was no tooth decay whatsoever. So the Western diet is causing ill effects in everyone.

When will our stupid government set up areas in each community where growing proper food is the norm. Not until then will we see any hope for our brothers and sisters. Not until then we will see a drop in suicide rates, poor health and alcohol related problems. I for one am at the ready to set up and teach a community to become self supporting in this way. Just need funding. So simple yet our government is not interested in helping these communities. So sad at the end of the day. Surprises me that the big mining companies aren’t doing more where they have disrupted the natural order of things.

maybe you have to look at the original aboriginal diet and say what in the European diet they have adopted is not agreeing with them like milk and milk products and processed foods, the digestive systems of a lot of indigenous peoples was not programmed to milk and wheat products, I have personally seen the rate of ear problems in youngsters drop when these food groups were eliminated ,just my thoughts obviously other things are involved like good sanitation and regular medical care

It is a complete scandal.

There are vaccines against the pneumococcal bacteria, but I understand that they are not very effective, though work continues to improve them.

A better question would be, how can we improve the living conditions of Aboriginal Australians? How can we improve their access to medical care?

These are factors that would reduce the rate of otitis media. We are seeing Aboriginal Australians living in poverty, next door to billion dollar mining projects. Something is not right there.
