Why is the right to practice one's culture a 'fundamental' human right? I don't buy that. I don't disagree with most of what's said here, but freedom, safety, food, education - these are rights. Culture is changeable, mutable, on both an individual and societal level. Everyone needs to take it a bit less seriously.

Very well expressed and of course has profound depth concerning the elements of human rights and humanity. Australia got to move forward and vestiges of race and caste have to be eliminated.

With multiculturalism we have come a long way. It has enrich Australia and those who refuse to recognise this fact are poorer for it.

A little story about the richness of Indigenous culture - about three and a half decades ago I was doing a graduate study in intercultural study. One of the assignment touched on religion - I ended up write from an "Indigenous" view about my religious beliefs and compared them to "superstitious practices" as a European would look at Indigenous religious beliefs.

The result has been interesting - no more "superstitious" Indigenous beliefs and a stronger belief in my own religious beliefs.
