An interesting view but one that is strong on rhetoric and weak on actual analysis. My own personal experience managing a large medical practice is that there are many children who do need protection who don't get it and many of the parents of these children are indeed "drugged up".

The problem for child protection workers is that they are 'damned if they do and damned if they don't '. Any case where a child is injured or even killed and where the agency could of stepped in but did not, inevitably draws howls of criticism from the media. When they take a more interventionist approach and step in to prevent a perceived threat to the child there are howls of criticism from the media. Its a lose lose situation.

Having spoken to child protection workers who have come here from the UK, they are surprised at the extent to which our agencies are prepared to step in early and take the legal route to remove children into care. Perhaps this is because a) we provide such little support to change these parents lives around b) they are being ultra defensive from the point of view of their professional reputation.

I nearly fell off my chair reading this. Thank you so much George, for putting into much better concise words, the truth of child protection. Finally a known researcher is telling the truth. You are a true hero. Two points to add though if I may ... firstly and sadly, the same thing is occurring with the elderly and the disabled. NSW Public Guardian made over seventy million dollars in interest a few years ago, keeping other people's money. Google public guardian corruption and Emily Brown. And secondly, the absolute lack of accountability is another reason for the continued increase in child removals. I have much evidence of this through case audits.

I agree totally. Our international treaty does not condone these actions.
